Rope Coil
There are a lot of ways to manage coils of rope and cable. This was the way the lineman I worked with liked to coil their handlines. I found it works well for a variety of applications including extension cords and even stranded wire.

How to Tie:
Coil the rope up, leaving the last wrap hanging. Slide the hand holding the coils through the coils. While holding the tag end to the side with your free hand, begin rotating the coil. Try to land the wraps in the upper third of the coils. After a minimum of 3 wraps (but you can do more to use up extra rope), grab the tag end with the coil holding hand and pull a bight through the coils above your wraps. Take the bight over the top of the coils and cinch it down against your wraps by pulling the tag end. Dress it tight and you are done. To uncoil, just reverse the process. Pull the bight up, drag it back through the coils by pulling the tag end, and then spin the coils in reverse.
Safety Disclaimer: ⚠️ Material Handling Only
The knots and techniques demonstrated on this site are intended strictly for material handling, wire pulling, and equipment securement. > Never use these hitches and knots for life safety, fall protection, or overhead lifting of loads where a failure could result in injury or death. Always use OSHA-compliant, load-rated hardware (harnesses, shackles, and slings) for critical lifts. Your safety team is there for a reason—consult them for high-risk tasks. Master the craft, stay out of pinch points, respect the load, and live to tie knots another day.
